Book Signing: Ken Stavino "Their Rails Crossed at WALLIS"
This book is the story of the City of Wallis, Texas from a railroad perspective, as well as the two railroads that once crossed there, one of which is now abandoned. Wallis became a railroad town in December 1879 when rails of the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway building north from Galveston reached an area southwest of what was originally known as Bovine Bend.
While the book has a considerable amount of history about Wallis and its railroads, it is not intended to be solely a history book. It is a study, based on information gathered and analyzed from many library and museum collections on railroad operating practices of the period. This results in a series of short stories that are bound together with either a connection to Wallis or the railroads involved.
Anyone interested in the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway, the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railway, the City of Wallis, Texas, or the area bounded by Houston, Galveston and San Antonio will find this well-done book one to read, enjoy and keep as an excellent reference.
