Inherit the Wind Performances
Playhouse Smithville presents Inherit the Wind by Jerome Lawrence and Robert Edwin Lee, starring Danne Absher as Matthew Harrison Brady,Sam Blasco as Henry Drummond and Steve Haight as E. K. Hornbeck. Inherit the Wind debuted in 1955 and is a fictionalized retelling of the 1925 Scopes“Monkey” Trial, but the play was intended to cause discussion about the then-contemporary McCarthy trials. Writer Jerome Lawrence said,“It’s not about science versus religion. It is about the right to think.” A popular movie was made of the script in 1960 starring Fredrick March, Spencer Tracy and Gene Kelly in the main roles. Inherit the Wind is directed by PlayhouseArtistic Director john daniels, jr. (sic). The show runs April 17 to May 2, on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. Matinees.
