SUMMARY:Special Event: Book Signing with Steve Goen
DESCRIPTION:Steve Goen - "Passenger Trains of Texas-The Katy"\n\n\n\nAbout the author: I have been documenting the railroads of Texas ever since the late 1960s. To date I have written and published thirteen books featuring the railroads of Texas including the last five which showcase the historic passenger trains that once served countless towns and communities across Texas. My other previous books have featured the Missouri Pacific\, Santa Fe\, Burlington\, Rock Island\, Southern Pacific\, Cotton Belt\, and the Texas & Pacific. In addition to books I have produced nearly 80 historic railroad DVDs including many on Katy that i shot just prior to the MKT-UP merger. My website can be viewed at www.texaszephyrpublishing.com.\n\n\n\nAbout the book: "Passenger Trains of Texas-The Katy" is a 272 page hardback book with chapters featuring a variety of Katy passenger trains that once crossed the state. Chapters are arranged in the date order that each train was discontinued. One of the longer chapters include the Houston section of Bluebonnet which served Smithville until November 23\, 1957 when it was discontinued. Other famous Katy trains featured include the Katy Flyer\, Katy Limited and the Texas Special.\n\n\n\nThe book features well over 300 rare historical photos\, passenger train timetables\, dining car menus\, advertisements\, and scenes of depots. Both steam and early day diesels are included. The book's cover features a painting showcasing the southbound Texas Special arriving in Temple in 1948 shortly after the train was streamlined.\n\n\n\nPrice: The list price of "Passenger Trains of Texas-The Katy" is $84.95 but will be available during the book signing for $74.95. I will also be donating a percentage of the sales to the Smithville Railroad Museum.
